5 Reasons Leadership Development Fails

Many reasons for good leadership to succeed are broadly recognised today. However, reasons for failure, by comparison, are not widely known. In fact, there are thousands of reasons for good leadership to bring a company to excel and succeed, but the suitability of these leadership qualities is much varied by context.

Every company is different by business nature, what we can learn from a successful company is not necessarily its leadership traits. Quite a contrary, we should learn from their mistakes, as all successes come a long way from mistakes.

 

Derailed Law of Attraction

We often hear ‘you are only as good as your team is’ as stated in the fundamental principle of human resource which focuses on the talent pool. However, your team is most likely – only as good as you – too, according to Law of Attraction.

Only real good leaders attract talented followers. So, what is the breakthrough being a business owner? The solution lies in your willpower as good leadership starts from you. Without determination in self-development, leaders who fail to adapt themselves to the ever-changing business trend, fail to lead.

 

Procrastination’s Killing Softly

Changes must be done promptly, for later means never. If you want to be a good leader, you have to train yourself to be the one right away. Training and development are time-consuming, so do leadership skills and characteristics of a leader take time to form and take shape.

Therefore, start to change now and alter the old you. Understanding and accounting for every simple thing in details, before any of it derails a leadership experience, is crucial to speed up result deliverance. Respond fast to mistakes and bring things back on track, especially in this Cyber Age when everything progresses in a blink of an eye, if not the speed of lightning.

 

Lack of Passion Driven Perseverance

Yes, things are easier said than done. Despite the urgency to make things right, you need just one thing to overcome these challenging periods of transformation – passion. Qualities of a good leader include consistent determination which remains unmoved. To achieve, you certainly need plenty of passion other than patience to pull through.

There will be noises, doubts and emotional interruptions in between trials and success. Passion fills in the gaps serving as a remedy to attest constant assurance towards a targeted outcome.

 

Lost in the Journey

When focusing on a targeted outcome, you don’t just talk about it. Instead, you visualise and materialise it. Try to pave your way to achieve the goal. The ability to put things into picture seems to be the identical leadership style that almost all successful leaders share in common.

Take Steve Jobs, Jack Ma, and Tony Fernandez as examples. These inspirational leaders were proactive enough to identify opportunity from risky encounters. Then, these risk-takers took their slim chance to win the race. Of course, when taking the road less trodden, success didn’t come easily in their first attempts. It was visionary leadership that guided their vigour to stay alive.

 

Stealing Credits without Rewarding

Any strategic leadership in practice would value a team-player because pursuing success is never a one-man-show in a team. Please be grateful to appreciate your teammates for their excellent teamwork. Without these integral contributions, achieving success might be impossible.

Never take things for granted. Uphold holistic leadership behaviours by paying your respect as all contributors deserve relevant rewards. When your team understands that their values are recognised, you emerge as the leader that they are willing to follow.
